Egyptian Writing
The Egyptians invented the use of a writing system called hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics were a mixture of symbols and words that proved to be highly useful in their society. It was used to record the Ancient Egyptian's religious beliefs and the historical life of the pharaohs. Hieroglyphics were recorded in papyrus which was a type of paper made from certain reeds found along the Nile. On the other hand, many people did not learn how to read and write. The job of being literate was left for the scribes who had to record information and history. The elite could also have the opportunity to read and write. Furthermore, written works held the beliefs and history of the ancient people of Egypt. Therefore, the scribes were believed to hold a crucial job and were ranked towards the top of the social ladder. The importance of written work or literature was greatly emphasized by the Pharaoh and the government officials.
